Established in 1986, Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS) is a faith based, not for profit trust registered with the Head Office in Nairobi, Kenya and a regional branch in Kisumu City in Western Kenya. MEDS offers Supply Chain Services in Warehousing and Distribution of Medicines and Medical Supplies, Quality Assurance and Health Advisory services related to health products & technologies. With over 200 employees, the organization has a countrywide distribution in Kenya, and serves clients beyond Kenya in countries such as South Sudan, Sudan, Somalia, Mali, Central Africa Republic and Democratic Republic of Congo among others. MEDS serves Faith based facilities, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Government entities and Community Based organizations.
Technology
Built on the RemoteShop framework using the latest in JavaScript technology. The frontend uses ReactJS and SailsJS for the backend. The API layer connects to Syspro via direct MS SQL commands and Syspro’s built-in business objects. The data is synchronised to a local MongoDB storage for fast data processing and on some occasions the data is queried live.
How it works
The MEDS customer is now able to log into the application and start placing orders with the products that are available in the catalogue. The catalogue displays the customer’s account pricing and live stock quantity levels across the different batches. The quantity selected by the customer will be dispatched from the batch expiring first. The customer has the option to place a quote first and convert the quote into an order if within the expiry time and stock levels are available.
Some unique features to MEDS’ RemoteShop application is the Free Sample section whereby the customer can request items that are being promoted and available for free. There are customers still using an Excel template to create their orders offline and can import this template directly into their cart. When loaded, the cart will show the stock code and quantity typed in the import template. Depending on product availability and stock level, the customer will need to adjust their cart accordingly before processing the quote or order.
